A vital part of a healthy lifestyle is being active and exercising. These days, so many of us spend most of our time sitting and looking at a computer screen. A sedentary lifestyle can lead to numerous health problems including heart disease, stroke, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, mental illness, and more. The simplest thing that you can do to get active and reduce your risk of these health problems is to WALK! Walking is a low-impact, low-risk activity and it has the lowest drop-out rate of all forms of exercise. Plus, the only equipment you need is comfortable clothes and supportive shoes.
To encourage people to get active and get walking, the American Heart Association celebrates National Walking Day. On Wednesday, April 6, people around the country will be committing to a healthier lifestyle when they "Lace Up and Go!" There are many locations in Lancaster where you will be able to meet up with other people and walk throughout the day. There will also be a big celebration that evening at HACC Lancaster Campus where you can walk, learn exercises at the fitness stations along the trails, stop by some wellness stations, win prizes, and more!
