Colon Lavage was first described in 1500 BC in the Ebers papyrus, an ancient Egyptian medical document.  Colon Hydrotherapy is an extended and more complete form of Lavage.  The safe, gentle infusion of temperature and pressure regulated water is designed to cleanse the entire large intestine.  The cleansing procedure removes parasites and infectious materials as well as feces, retained gas, and mucus that remain in the colon due to insufficient mastication.  Additionally, the water bathes the cells of the colon and dilutes bacterial toxin concentrations.  The therapeutic effects of the bathing process result in improved tone and peristalsis as well as promoting absorption of nutrients.

Laxatives vs. Colon Hydrotherapy

Laxatives act as chemical irritants and stimulate the muscular walls of the colon to abnormally contract to expel the irritating substances.  Laxatives interfere with the digestive processes occurring in the stomach and small intestine which results in electrolyte depletion and dehydration.  Colon Hydrotherapy cleanses the large intestine from below and does not compromise digestion higher up in the alimentary tact.

Enemas vs. Colon Hydrotherapy

Colon Hydrotherapy extends beyond the natural defecation area to offer greater cleansing and therapeutic benefits.  There is no offensive odor as with enemas and bedpans.

The Role of Colon Hydrotherapy in Disease Prevention

Research has shown that regular use of refined carbohydrates and lack of natural fiber increase the transit time of bowel waste and stimulates putrefaction in the colon.  Each year, 140,000 persons are diagnosed as having colon cancer and approximately 60,000 die because of their disease.  Over 100,000 colostomy procedures are performed annually in this country.  Periodic cleansing minimizes the exposure of the colon walls to carcinogens.
