What is Chiropractic?

Dr. Andrew Ashton practices Torque Release Technique, a very specific, low-impact, hand held instrument technique.

The chiropractic perspective on health emphasizes two fundamental concepts:

(1) the structure and condition of the body influences how the body functions and its ability to heal itself; and

(2) the mind-body relationship is instrumental in maintaining health and in the healing processes.

Chiropractic’s holistic approach to healing maintains that the body is a self-healing organism. Your healing, as well as every other function in your body is directed and coordinated by your nervous system; which is housed and in an intimate relationship with your spinal column. Therefore, through this close relationship, adjusting your spine will affect the function of your nerve system.

The way a chiropractor affects your health is by correcting spinal subluxations.

A spinal subluxation is an area of spinal dysfunction that interferes with the normal transmission of nerve impulses; which inhibits your body from functioning correctly, and from healing to its fullest capability.  In other words, if the nervous system “feels good” then usually the rest of the body “works well.”   If you are developing problems in your spine, you may be developing more than neck and back pain, bodily aches and pains, and headaches; you may also be developing internal health problems. By correcting your spinal problems, not only will your neck and back issues improve, but your general health should also improve. Further, chiropractic will improve your physical well-being, and you may find that you achieve a higher state of mental well-being.
